  2. Describe at least three (3) project goals and three (3) project objectives.
  3. Identify the key customer(s) and at least two (2) stakeholders for your project. Remember, you are delivering the project to your customer(s); however, there are others (stakeholders) who have a vested interest in your project.
  4. Describe at least three (3) key milestones and /or deliverables for your project.
  5. Describe a high-level timeline that includes key tasks and deadlines.
  6. Estimate the project’s overall cost and any key staffing and non-staffing resources needed.
  7. Examine your project’s greatest challenge and provide a recommendation for addressing the challenge in question.

As the Kelly’s Salon Case Study states, the owner has asked you to help her analyze her business and apply a technology- related solution to improve the operation of her Salon. Before she expands her business, she wants to be comfortable that she will actually have customers.

Group A: Use what you have learned to answer the following questions as they relate to Kelly’s Salon:

  1. List 3 or 4 questions about the customers that Kelly, as manager of the business, would want to have answers to. Label each question as to whether it is strategic or operational/tactical in nature.
  2. What data would you gather about the customers to be able to answer those questions?
  3. What would be the top two business benefits Kelly could gain from this business intelligence?
  4. What should she tell the customers about why she is collecting data about them?

Assignment 2: Required Assignment 1—Business Case and Proposal for Project Selection

You work for Centervale Apparel, a large clothing manufacturing firm. Centervale Apparel has budgeted $9.7 million for new technology initiatives in the coming year but the project requests currently in the queue for next year total about $15 million. Your boss, the executive director of operations, has asked you to put together a proposal for this project to replace legacy order fulfillment technologies by implementing a supply chain management (SCM) system. Your boss wants to ensure this project will be prioritized over other projects on the list and will be implemented in the coming year. Use the following data to prepare a proposal using a balanced scorecard approach to demonstrate the project’s value to Centervale Apparel.

Here is your brief:
Business Problem: The order fulfillment team has been using several legacy technology systems to manage inventory and distribution. The current systems do not work together, requiring redundant information input and processing. Because of the redundant processes, work is duplicated requiring multiple data entry points and sometimes results in inaccurate and irreconcilable data. There is a constant overage or shortage of supply due to the time it takes for data to get from one point to another. This causes unhappy customers and inventory carrying costs that could be avoided.

Project Description: Replace legacy order fulfillment technologies by implementing a SCM system.

Project Cost: The project will cost approximately $1.2 million including infrastructure and resources to complete the implementation and $250,000 annually to support and maintain the new system with a ten-year lifecycle for the system.

Project Benefit: It is estimated that the implementation of a supply chain management system will improve the order fulfillment processing time and reduce inventory-carrying costs. Implementing the SCM system will also enable the retirement of several legacy systems. Estimated annual cost savings are:
•Data entry staff reduced from 10 FTE to 8 FTE = $100,000/yr savings
•Reduction in inventory carrying costs = $300,000/yr savings
•Improved order fulfillment = 10–20% decrease in order to delivery time. This will improve customer satisfaction and retention
•Improved data accuracy
•Legacy system maintenance retirement savings = $100,000/yr

Using the information that details the primary business goals for the coming year, you will need to demonstrate how implementing the SCM system will help achieve the business objectives.

Note: Customers are retail companies who order from this clothing manufacturer. Assume a ten-year lifecycle for the SCM system.

Using the module readings and the Argosy University online library resources, research methods of developing proposals by applying the balanced scorecard approach. Select two scholarly resources for use in this assignment. You will use these resources to justify your recommendations.

The proposal should include the following:
•Describe the measureable value. This should include a cost-benefit analysis, such as payback period or ROI that relies on tangible measures of organizational value through cost savings, revenue enhancements, or improvements in the speed, quality, or efficiency of key processes that help achieve competitive advantage (note the difference between tangible and intangible measures in this proposal).
•Evaluate and choose alternatives. Make sure to identify any alternatives to the project implementation and provide a justification for each.
•Complete a risk assessment of all risks associated with implementing the project using an enterprise risk management (ERM) model.
•Describe total cost of ownership and include descriptions of implementation project and ongoing maintenance costs.
•Explain the benefits of the project, which include tangible and intangible benefits.
•Fully justify a recommendation with a compelling proposal that aligns to the business goals.

Write a 4-6-page paper in Word format. Apply APA citations.

Effects of television on childhood obesity

Summary of assignment

Task: Analyze causes or effects of a phenomenon in an essay supported by research. Choose a topic related to your field of study or a field of study that interests you.

Length: 1500-2000 words

Format: APA

Sources: Minimum of 6. At least 3 of these must be from scholarly journals, and all sources should be selected based on reliability, currency, and level of information/analysis. The UMUC library will be very useful in helping you find appropriate sources.

Outcomes you should achieve by completing this assignment

As you complete the tasks required for this assignment, you will be working towards the various course outcomes:

  • Use research to write an essay on causes or effects that will inform or persuade an audience (Course outcome 1)

  • Form unified, coherent, and well-supported paragraphs in support of the thesis statement (Course outcome 2)

  • Select sources, use them to inform and support your writing, and document them in APA style (Course outcome 4)

  • Demonstrate accurate grammar and mechanics in writing (Course outcome 3)

  • Participate in the process of receiving feedback and revising your writing (Course

    outcome 1)

Choosing a topic

This assignment asks you to write about either causes or effects of a phenomenon. Do not try to cover both causes and effects of a phenomenon in your essay. This essay is not long enough to cover both causes and effects in enough detail.

For example, a student could write about various causes of pipeline accidents. This essay’s thesis statement and supporting paragraphs would focus only on causes of the accidents. The essay would not go into detail on effects of the pipeline accidents, thought it might briefly mention effects, perhaps in the conclusion.

Another possible topic is the effects of exposure to a particular chemical. This essay would focus only on effects. The introduction might briefly mention how exposure occurs, and the

conclusion might briefly mention how to avoid exposure. However, the thesis statement and the supporting paragraphs would focus on effects of exposure.

At the end of these instructions is a list of possible topics to get you started.

Organizing and supporting your essay

As you write your essay, be sure to include the following:

  • an engaging introductory paragraph that includes an effective and clear thesis statement

  • any definition of terms or background information that your reader is likely to need to understand your paper

  • unified, supported, and coherent body paragraphs that defend the thesis

  • an effective conclusion

Research is a key element of this paper. Take care to support your claims with research throughout the paper. Include in-text citations whenever you use sources, whether through quote, paraphrase, or summary. A reference list at the end of the paper should list all of the sources cited in the text of the paper.

Point of view

This essay will be written in an academic style. Use third person point of view. Do not use “I” or “you.”

Persuasive or Expository

This essay can be a persuasive essay, in which you try to persuade the reader of a particular position. Or it can be an expository essay in which synthesize different viewpoints on an issue in order to inform the reader. The following examples help illustrate these two approaches.

  • A persuasive essay on the effects of video games on learning might the position that video games should be integrated into school science curricula to teach middle school students. The essay would cite articles that demonstrate research studies and other pieces of evidence to support the claim that video games can enhance instruction in science classes and will help middle school students learn science more effectively.

  • An expository essay on the effects of video games on learning would report ont the topic without taking a stand. The essay would synthesize information on this topic, by bringing together various sources and viewpoints. It would summarize and analyze research findings on the impacts of video games on learning.

Formatting your essay

Use APA style to format your essay, including the following guidelines:

  • Use one-inch margins.

  • Double space.

  • Use size 12 Times New Roman font.

  • Include a running head.

  • Include page numbers.

  • Include a title page.
